Location
Molvízar is a Spanish town and municipality located in the central-western part of the Costa Granadina region, in the province of Granada, autonomous community of Andalusia. It borders the municipalities of Los Guájares, Salobreña and Ítrabo. Other nearby towns are Lobres and Jete.
It is located 12 km from Motril and 70 km from Granada capital, very close to the Mediterranean coast, from which it is about 8 km away. It has about 3,400 inhabitants, although its population has recently been increasing with the arrival of numerous foreigners, most of whom go to look for work in agriculture or construction. Its greatest wealth is agricultural: greenhouses, avocados, custard apples, etc.
Its main monuments are the church building, from the 18th century, a neoclassical style building built by royal order of Carlos III between 1785 and 1790, and that of the Company of Jesus, located in the Alto neighborhood.
The main festival takes place on July 26, a date that the Catholic calendar dedicates to Saint Anne. On this date the representation of the Moors and Christians is celebrated as a commemoration of the struggles between both peoples in the Middle Ages, which ended in 1492. with the Taking of Granada by the troops of the Catholic Monarchs and the expulsion of the last Nasrid king: Boabdil.
